In a thrilling display of skill and resilience, Jon Rahm secured his first individual title in LIV Golf, narrowly clinching victory by a single stroke with a final score of 13 under. Over the course of the tournament, Rahm delivered an impressive performance with rounds of 63, 70, and 67, demonstrating his formidable presence on the course.
Rahm's Journey to Victory
Rahm's path to success was anything but smooth. On the final day, he scored 2 under on the front nine and made three birdies across the first four holes of the back nine, showcasing his determination and precision. However, the day was not without its challenges. A three-putt bogey on the par-3 17th hole tested Rahm's composure.
The competition was fierce, with Tyrrell Hatton, Joaquin Niemann, and Cameron Smith all vying for the top spot. Hatton, in particular, came agonizingly close to forcing a playoff with a 6-foot putt on the 18th green, but it was not meant to be.
A Special Win for Rahm
Reflecting on his victory, Rahm shared, "It's just emotional, you know, it hasn't been the easiest for our family. Kelly and I have gone through quite a bit … and to get this one done — she did tell me our son Kepa said to bring a trophy from this stretch of golf. I started to believe it was going to happen at one point today, maybe not in the last 20 minutes, but at least I can look in the camera and say I am bringing one home for them."
This win marks another milestone in Rahm's impressive career, giving him nine straight top-10 finishes in LIV Golf. However, the journey hasn't been without its setbacks, as Rahm missed the cut at the PGA Championship and withdrew before the U.S. Open in 2024. Despite these hurdles, his grit and determination shone through in his latest triumph.
Team Triumph
Beyond Rahm's individual success, the team competition saw Legion XIII emerge victorious, winning by three strokes over Ripper GC. Key contributions came from Caleb Surratt and Kieran Vincent, solidifying the team's dominance on the course.
Looking Ahead
Rahm's win adds to a fantastic year that has seen him break through barriers and achieve remarkable feats. "Finally get one done. You never want to get those feelings to go on for too long and to get over that hump feels quite incredible. It's been a fantastic week and a fantastic year and (I'm) just relieved that it happened," Rahm said, expressing his relief and satisfaction.
Rahm's aspirations extend beyond this victory. As he looks forward to the future, he is setting his sights on representing Spain in the Olympics at Le Golf National alongside fellow Spaniard David Puig. "I think that walk down 18 or down the back nine would have been a little bit harder had I not gotten a win, but getting over the hump and getting it done I think is going to give me a little extra confidence if I put myself in a good position on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to sharing the week with David. It's going to be fantastic, and hopefully, one of us can leave with the gold," Rahm shared.
Exciting Moments on the Course
While Rahm's victory was the highlight, other notable moments included Andy Ogletree's strong start to his final round with back-to-back birdies. Meanwhile, Rahm's consistent excellence was evident, as seen in his T7 finish at Royal Troon.
Rahm's latest triumph in LIV Golf not only underscores his incredible talent and perseverance but also sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting journey ahead for the golfer and his fans. With eyes firmly set on future victories and Olympic dreams, Rahm continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of golf.
